March 31st is Deadline for Employers to Furnish Health Coverage Forms

Form 1095-A-97

Applicable large employers and employers that sponsor self-funded plans must furnish health coverage information forms to certain employees.  This is a new requirement under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).  “Applicable large employers” are employers that are subject to the ACA’s employer mandate.  These employers are required to furnish a Form 1095-C to each employee that was full-time for at least one month in 2015.  Small employers that sponsor self-funded plans are also required to furnish a Form 1095-B to each employee covered under the plan for at least one month on 2015.  Please note small employers that sponsor full-insured plans do not have to furnish any forms in this regard.  The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has published FAQs regarding what employees need to do with their forms.  To view these FAQs, please click here.
