What A Staffing Firm Can and Cannot Do For Job Seekers

If you’re looking for work, signing up with an employment service like Professional Staffing Group can give you many advantages. While our connections can certainly work in your favor, there are certain things employment services can and cannot do.

Here’s what we can do: we can help you find work! As we are fond of saying: our job is to find you one. But no one can be all things to all people. That is why we are “specialty” recruiters who work within select professional and business sectors.

Our specialty areas include:

  • Legal
  • IT/Technical
  • Accounting/Financial
  • Office Support
  • Medical/Healthcare
  • Call Centers
  • Construction/Industrial (Our Newest Specialty Area!)

When you become a PSG candidate, your resume is circulated to clients looking for a particular set of skills and availability. Depending on your flexibility and the type of work you will accept, you could start working very quickly. Even if it’s not a full-time gig, very short-term assignments often end up becoming long-term, if not a temp-to-hire, position. You just never know.

There is one thing employment services can’t do for you: our ability to help you find work depends on the set of skills and kind of work our clients are shopping for, so we cannot guarantee placement. We will “shop” a great candidate around to our clients, but only if we feel that a candidate would be a great asset to a client.

Our clients come to us to fill their needs, not the needs of a job candidate. That is, we know our clients really well and if we feel you’d be a great match, even if a client isn’t looking for your skill set right then, we’ll definitely let the client know about you. But it’s up to the client to say, “Yes!” We have no control over it.

The smart way to look at an employment service is as just one more tool in your job search tool kit. Don’t look at us as your only means to a job. We should be one of many. Use us and use us as much as you can, but you also should be looking at companies that need your skills on your own. Contact these companies. Apply for jobs. Update your LinkedIn profile. Network, network and network some more.

And, of course, send us your resume. If you’ve never worked with a staffing service, visit our site to find out what to expect when working with us. Send us your resume. Let us know weekly of your availability. And then go out and hit the virtual (or real) pavement while we work our connections. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates on job opening and industry news!
