It is common for members of any work team to become stuck in their ways. It happens all the time, no matter what type of company you work for, and it is most common among the veteran employees. When you are able to get your employees out of their comfort zone, it can lead to success for both the company and the employees. Let Team Members Make Decisions

One of the best ways to help your team step out of their comfort zones is to let the members make decisions whenever possible. It can become second nature for a manager to make the decisions on a regular basis. But, if you can remember, try to hand some of the decision making to team members. When you do this, you allow team members the opportunity to learn how to make decisions on their own.

Gradually Hand Over New Work

If you have employees who need to break out of their comfort zones, it might be very difficult to convince them to start something new. One way to make the transition process easy on them is by handing over any new work on a gradual basis. Do not overwhelm them with new projects or else you will never break them out of their comfort zones. Instead, gradually assign new work over a period of a couple of months until they become accustomed to it.

Point Out the Positives

If you assign a stretch assignment to an employee who needs to break out of their comfort zone, be sure to explain the positives to them. This includes why you think this specific employee can handle the new assignment. This means that they do not have a strong comfort level with performing the task successfully. You might want to consider assigning these tasks more often to the same employee because it could lead to them finding the task easy to complete after a while.
