Put It in Writing
When we get caught up in our day-to-day lives, it is easy to forget that we wanted to incorporate NVC.
Making a commitment to daily practice can remind you that these skills are available and that you are interested in trying them out. Consider writing your commitment down and placing it near your desk as a reminder. It can also be helpful to have another person involved in your commitment for accountability and extra support – such as a practice partner.
One easy method to commit to daily practice is through daily mourning or celebration with your partner, either live, by phone, or even by email. However small or seemingly insignificant, this daily practice helps build our awareness of the four NVC distinctions while also building our awareness of our own behavior.
On your own, or with your practice partner, express one thing you’d like to mourn – observing the experience without judgment, expressing what you felt, what needs were not met. Then, express one thing you’d like to celebrate using the same process, yet noting what needs were met.

This week, put your commitment to daily practice on paper and place it in a prominent location. If you feel inspired to do so, find a practice partner as well.
